Breaking: Two officers shot at protest outside Ferguson police station (VIDEO)

Two policemen were shot in front of the Ferguson Police Department early Thursday as crowds gathered in front shortly after the police chief resigned after the Justice Department released a report alleging racial bias in the department.

The shooting happened just after midnight and both officers are listed in serious condition but are conscious, the St. Louis County Police said in a statement.

Neither officer served with the Ferguson Police, but does serve the St. Louis area.

The first, a 41-year-old St. Louis County officer, who is a 14-year veteran of law enforcement, was shot in the shoulder.

The other, a 32-year-old Webster Groves officer, who is a 7-year veteran, was shot in the face.

Their names have not been released.

Authorities are asking for help. Anyone with information about the shooting should contact CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477(TIPS).
