Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko warns his country is very close to the point of no return in its conflict with Russia.
Poroshenko, however, said enormous efforts are being made to prevent a full-scale war with Russia. He made the comments at a news conference in Brussels following a meeting with EU leaders. Earlier, he acknowledged that the European Union is gearing up a fresh wave of sanctions against Russia. Poroshenko said the new measures would be conditional on the success of a peace plan proposed by him. The European leaders met in the Belgian capital on Saturday to draw up new measures to force Moscow reconsider its position. The 28-nation bloc has already warned that the escalating conflict in Ukraine is putting all of Europe at the risk of war.
