• We did that in the early 70′s at my high school. Then we had a trap shoot in the rear parking lot.


• When I was in JR high, we had gun safety. That was the late 80s early 90s. Still have my patch somewhere.


• Back in the 60′s myself and four other 12 year old boys would routinely walk down town (small rural town in Canada) with our 22 rifles to the General Store, one of us would stay outside with the guns and the others would go inside cash in the pop bottles we collected and buy as many 22LR rounds as we could afford. The store owner would say ” now you boy’s be careful with those guns now” we replied “yes sir we will” and off we would go for a days adventures. No one was shot, no one was hurt, no one got in any trouble, none us turned out to be axe murderers. We all were taught right from wrong by our fathers, brothers, uncles and other responsible adults. We all new full well we were responsible for our actions. We also knew full well the consequences if we were not safe. Those were truly the best times to be a young boy.


• Ridiculous that now you have to be “of age” to buy ammo or a gun. I love my 22LR rifle. That is my baby, and she keeps me safe at night.


• But our nation then was not glorifying violence and Godlessness through the entertainment medias. It taught respect for life. The children saw through a different value system. They were taught to desire and uphold peace as much as it was possible. War was only declared if forced upon your country by an aggressor.


• Look at the changes in your society today. I appreciate guns and never want the American citizens disarmed. We need mental attitude changes in order to bring a better atmosphere back to our nation.


• We need to stop the glorifying of the violence and “macho” bullying as the “way ” to prove dominance.

• You may think so , but the amount of violence in movies then and now is about the same even slightly less these days. Just think the westerns, war movies and gangster flicks that were the hot topics of the era,, even the cartoons of the time were far more violent or han those if today. And the immorality of the media today is just a cop out, if parents ,even single parents would take the initiative to teach right from wrong the medias influence would be insignificant.


• There were actually better parents back then and common sense. Let face it in the 70′s and 80′s we didn’t have to have disclaimers or warning stickers. We knew it already lol


• My son is 4 and knows more about gun safety than a lot of teenagers. I feel that the earlier they learn the better!


• We could bring guns to school and work on them in shop class


• people that know nothing about guns are making the laws now.


• We definitely need to bring this back to schools…some people just dont have common sense when it comes to gun safety. ..


• I learned about guns and gun safety at an early age also. Yes, I even took the Hunter Safety course in school. It was a class that I looked forward to every day. Our last 2 day’s were spent at the rifle range with a host of State Police officers and Game Wardens as our instructors. The class is so good that it is now mandatory in our State that a young person has to take the class and pass it before they can purchase their hunting license.


• I have been reading some of the comments about guns and violence and school shootings that I just wanted to say this. People want to jump on the gun control band wagon and doing away with the 2nd. Amendment. ..where were the parents of the young people committing these school shootings. I will tell you, they were either at home with their heads in the sand OR, they were wrapped up in their own pity full lives or their jobs that they could care less about the children or young people.


• Some folks want to jump on the gun band wagon, let’s have some of these politicians, and lawyers, and doctor’s or anyone else who wants to put their hat in the ring, have them get the stats on young people and alcohol and driving. How many are killed everyday from that. I will tell you, a lot. How many are killed a day from drugs…I will tell you, a lot. Now, at the end of the day let’s put these stats in their respective columns and let’s see which ones are worse.
