Does Anyone Remember DMX?

DMX

Do any of you remember DMX? The rapper who made the scene in the 90′s with his crew Ruff Ryders and was famous for his dog barking and growling in his tunes. Regardless of if you remember him or not, he basically just “fell off the earth” some years ago and we haven’t heard from him since, so I decided to dig out my old albums and give them a listen, for old times sake.

Now, I’m born in the 80′s and I very much remember the two first albums I heard from DMX: “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” and “Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood”.

Funny names for albums and I’m sure you will agree that “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood” has a very gory album cover with DMX being covered in a substance portrayed as blood. The lyrics throughout the album is very much like the average rap album back in the day…with the N word, the B word and the F word being used pretty regularly.

The album that was released after Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood was “…And Then There Was X”. Listening to this album you can definitely hear that things gave changed in DMX’s life. He has become very religious and puts his faith in God and not only are there several actual prayers written and recorded by DMX on the album but the lyrics have new meaning. Yes, the F, N & B words are still mentioned throughout but not in the same sense.

Lyrics taken out of the song “More 2 a Song”:

“It’s more 2 a song than jewelry and clothes

More to a n***** life than money and hoes

The game is a lot bigger than you think you know

And if you think you know, then I don’t think you know.”

These lyrics clearly state that there is something bigger behind the music industry and DMX has recently devoted his life to coming out with HIS truth about it, which is probably the reason why media have him on lock down. Apparently, his last album “Undisputed” was released on September 11th, 2012 after long delays.

After listening to some of the songs and feeling slightly “enlightened” knowing what I know now, thanks to VC, I decided to do some research to see what DMX was up to and what had been up to over the last 10-15 years. The discovery I made was scary to say the least. The information given by him in several interviews with talk show hosts such as Dr Phil for example, adds up and mirrors the information we read here on VC about the music industry. DMX has said that he has no love for the industry anymore and he no longer wants to be associated with it and he mentions the Devil and selling his soul frequently.

DMX spoke the truth about the industry and as with many other celebrities doing the same, he started running into trouble. He was brought up on a bunch of charges and went to jail several times. In interviews that can be found on YouTube, DMX is talking about many of these cases being set up’s which is not surprising. At one stage he was given a $25,000 speeding ticket. Now, we can all agree that this would probably not happen to you and me….yet anyway.

In closing, I have attached the following clip which is a poem written and performed by DMX and really caught my attention. In my opinion this is spot on and I hope DMX lives to tell us more of the dark side of the music industry and doesn’t end up as many of his fellow friends and collaborators.

We need more people to Wake Up before it’s too late.
